The Sixth Annual National Radial Engine Exhibition (NREE) will be Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Colorado Regional Airport in Akron, Colorado.
The NREE has been notified by the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command that its West Coast A-10 Demonstration Team will be performing at this year’s show. This is one of only eight demonstration teams in the Air Force that will demonstrate the performance of the A-10 Thunderbolt II, affectionately known as the “Warthog”. Along with the demo the Air Force has arranged a “Heritage Flight” with a P-51 Mustang celebrating two distinct eras of Air Force history and technology.
This Air Force demo will be the 8th major performance that will be featured at this years event. They join Gary Miller’s AT-6 Racer, Don Nelson’s Suhkoi SU-26 high energy aerobatics, Gene McNeely’s of team Aeroshell in his AT-6 Texan along with 'Sons of Legends' The duo of Matt Younkin in the 1929 Travel Air and Kyle Franklin in the highly modified 1940 Waco Mystery Ship." The show opens with skydivers presenting Old Glory and closes with a full scale movie quality WWII re-enactment featuring in-your-face pyrotechnics by Angelight Pyrotechnics.
This years event will have the added attraction of a 5K Run/Walk that will start at 7:30 a.m. and will end at the exhibition site where you can begin enjoying this fun packed day. Or you can join us for breakfast, starting at 7:30 and watch the arrival of dozens of exhibitors and visitors arrive and the car show set up for viewing beginning at 10:00. Throughout the day radio control airplanes, military history displays, great food and a wide variety of vendors will be on hand for your entertainment.
Keep checking for the latest on this year's record breaking event.

The Sixth Annual National Radial Engine Exhibition (NREE) to be held Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Colorado Plains Regional Airport in Akron, Colorado is looking forward to an even bigger and better show than last year!
According to Dan Jenson, Air Show Coordinator, "This year the featured aerobatic acts will be performed by 'Sons of Legends'. The duo of Matt Younkin in the 1929 Travel Air and Kyle Franklin in the highly modified 1940 Waco Mystery Ship."
"Special exhibitors this year will be Grumman TBM Torpedo bomber, and the B-17 from the Arizona Wing of the Confederate Air Force", says Randy Hayes aircraft exhibt coordinator.
John Horn, NREE Committee Chairman says “The event I am always excited to see is Don Nelson’s world class high energy aerobatics performance. Don Nelson and his Russian Sukhoi aircraft stalls upside down flying at 180 MPH. It then free-falls backwards and at the last minute starts the engine and takes off! It is a bigger thrill every time I see it.”
The National Radial Engine Exhibition committee is working with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8064 and American Legion Post 66 to show support of veterans. Ralph Rogers, Commander for both Posts says “We are working closely with the WWII reenactment group of the “6th Division (1940-1941)” headquartered out of Cheyenne, Wyoming to bring us a spectacular pyrotechnics show, brought to us by Angel Light Pyrotechnics. This part of the program will entertain the crowd with explosions, simulated gunfire and mortar attacks.”
Larry Hill and his vendor committee have put together a great group of merchants for the event. Larry says "Food, clothing, exhibits, paintings, and crafts will be available for purchase." He goes on to say, "If you have not signed up as a vendor to give me a call at (970) 554-0799. There is always space for more.”
Timeline for September 6, 2008
